Green Smoothies - Fast, Nutrious and Healthy Fun
 
Green smoothies are the new fast foods and the easiest way to increase your nutrition. It does take some effort on your part, but is almost as easy as going through the drive through window at the golden arches. A green smoothie contains a few ice cubes with any combination offruits and vegetables processed in a blender. It’s one of the easiest ways to get your children to eat their greens while you supply a wholloping amount of nutrients to their diet. There’s no recipe for a green smoothie since each one is different, but you find that after a while you develop a taste for certain combinations.
 
Most people understand that you need three servings of fruits and three of vegetables every day. Unlike meat, you can add more than the minimum required amount and it doesn’t harm your system or put on weight. It simply adds more vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to your diet. Of course, if you don’t eat many vegetables or much fiber, you’re liable to have a thorough colon cleansing. While that’s not a bad thing, if you have a busy day or an important meeting, it’s quite a distraction. So, begin your regimen of green smoothies on a quiet weekend where any distractions won’t matter.
 
Many people swear by the green smoothies as a way to help allergies, chronic illness and even cancer. There are stories of those that either decided not to add toxins to the body to fight cancer and use green smoothies, cabbage soups or a diet of raw vegetables and honey to combat the dreaded condition. In many cases, the additional nutrition of the fruits and vegetables worked. Of course, there is no study that compares the administration of cancer fighting drugs against a test group of people using blended raw fruits and vegetables for their cure. In cases where the doctor gives no hope and offers no treatment alternatives, it’s certainly worth a try.
                                                                                 
There is no one recipe for a green smoothie. It’s a matter of combining fruits and vegetables to match your taste. There are some helpful hints to follow, however. First, vary the fruits and vegetables you use in your smoothie. Just like a regular meal, you’ll want to include as many colors and varieties of fruits and vegetables as possible. Consider adding sprouts to the smoothie. The sprouts bring extra nutrition to your drink. Some people also add wheat germ and sunflower seeds in addition to the greens.
 
Be aware that when you add apples to your green smoothie, the flavor of the apple tends to overwhelm the smoothie. Bananas also have a bold flavor that overwhelms the other fruits. This is not necessarily a bad thing, particularly if the ingredients for your drink include any bitter vegetable.
 
Another tip that many use for their green smoothie are wild plants such as purslane or sorrel and herbs. These should be smaller additives and not a main ingredient in the mix.
 
You can get creative with your green smoothie. It’s one of the best ways to get your children to eat raw leafy vegetables without them ever suspecting. Use a cup with a lid and a colored straw if they don’t want to drink anything green. Sometimes the color keeps them away from the nutrition. Remember, your green smoothie might not even be green, when you use a large amount of purple and red fruits and vegetables with a vegetable like cucumber, expect a purple blend. Regardless of the mixture or color, a green smoothie is one method of making your body healthier than ever.
